Interview with Ashley Rose(@real.ashley.rose)
Thank you so much for joining us! What brought you to this specific career path?
My profession is not what brings home my weekly paycheck, it is what I was put here on earth to do, with such passion and intensity that it became my spiritual calling. It’s a privilege to be able to bear witness to someone’s story when they may not have had the chance to tell it before.
Can you share the most interest in exciting things that have happened to you since you started doing this?
I have never witnessed the removal of an actual mountain. But, because of my work, I have seen a mountain of doubt and despair removed and replaced with hope and optimism.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them thrive and not “burn out”?
I think that self-care is important. As the old saying goes, “you can’t pour from an empty cup.”
We can only succeed with some help along the way. Is there a person you are grateful to who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
I want to say thank you to the rare few individuals in my life who have listened without judgement, spoken without prejudice, helped without entitlement, understood without pretension, and loved me without conditions.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
We live in a generation that romanticizes the hustle, and moving forward as quickly as possible when it comes to careers and our success within them. But, there is no point in rushing quickly toward a life that will not inspire you or fulfill you. It is okay to slow down. It is ok to take the time you need. You are in no rush to figure out your own soul. It’s never too late to start over, it’s never too late to change your mind, and it’s never too late to give up on dreams you thought you wanted for ones that genuinely excite and challenge you. When you doubt this, remember- Oprah was fired from her first tv job. Steven Spielberg was rejected from film school. Vera Wang was a figure skater, who ended up designing wedding gowns when she was 40. Van Gogh only sold one painting in his lifetime. All of the greats we consider heroes, all of the people we want to emulate- they all approached their journeys from a unique timeline. They did not have it all figured out immediately.
Do you have a favorite “written Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
Some periods of our growth are so confusing that we don’t even recognize that growth is happening. We may feel hostile or angry, weepy or hysterical, or we may feel depressed. It would never occur to us, unless we stumbled on a book or a person who explained to us, that we are in fact in the process of change, of actually becoming larger, spiritually, than we were before. Whenever we grow, we tend to feel it, as a young seed must feel the weight and inertia of the earth as it seeks to break out of its shell on its way to becoming a plant. Often the feeling is anything but pleasant. But what is most unpleasant is the not knowing what is happening […] Those long periods when something inside ourselves seems to be waiting, holding its breath, unsure about what the next step should be, eventually become the periods we wait for, for it is in those periods that we realize that we are being prepared for the next phase of our life and that, in all probability, a new level of the personality is about to be revealed.
